Murupara Healthy Homes Project milestone
Murupara's Healthy Homes Project has reached another milestone, with Te Ika Whenua Hauora taking on the additional responsibility of seeking and securing project funding.
Te Ika Whenua Hauora has delivered Healthy Homes Murupara since February this year, taking over the key coordination role from the Whakatāne District Council, which initiated the project two years ago.
Council Community Development Advisor Lorreen Hartley says that in the past two years, 40 homes have been insulated and received a maintenance assessment and 12 community days have been held to upskill residents on home maintenance activities.
“This incredible programme has made a significant difference in participants’ lives, with feedback confirming that the insulation provided has made homes much warmer and provided a healthier environment for the occupants,” she says. “Its delivery has been made possible by the crucial funding support provided by BayTrust, the Ngāti Manawa Charitable Trust, Bay of Plenty District Health Board Toi Te Ora and the Eastern Bay Energy Trust.”
She says the Ngāti Manawa Charitable Trust and the District Health Board will continue to subsidise household insulation installations for the next year and Te Ika Whenua Hauora will continue its delivery role and seek additional support to facilitate other activities.
