MFE welcomes new faces to the executive leadership team
The Ministry for the Environment is delighted to welcome Anne Haira and Sam Buckle to its executive leadership team in June.
Anne Haira will be joining us as Deputy Secretary Partnerships and Customers. She has had a rich and diverse career spanning the public and private sectors, including Kensington Swan and Fonterra.  Anne joins us from the Primary ITO where she is General Manager, Business & Industry Partnerships and oversees customer relationships, sales and operational delivery. She leads a large field team across New Zealand to grow capability within the primary industries and brings a strong track record of building strategic partnerships. Anne's career to date has included senior stakeholder management roles covering industry, local government, Māori/iwi and NGOs. She has a deep understanding of Crown-Māori relationships having spent a considerable part of her career as legal counsel to a range of iwi and hapū in their Treaty claims and settlements.
Sam Buckle will establish the new role of Deputy Secretary Resource Efficiency. He will lead our resource efficiency programme and help us eliminate waste. Sam brings a wealth of experience in managing industry, media, political and government relationships. He is currently working on the development and implementation of a national security strategic work programme at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. He was General Manager of Government and Stakeholder Affairs at Fonterra and has been an Executive Director at the NZ Shipping Federation.
Both of these roles are ultimately about changing the mind sets and behaviour of New Zealanders through effective partnering and engagement. Our combined efforts will help position New Zealand as a leader in achieving environmental outcomes and move us towards being the most liveable place in the world.
